PowerFlushing

Power Flushing can be the cost effective solution to your central heating problems. We at Kerry Plumbing recognise that costs are a serious implication in these recessionary times and can now provide you with a way of rejuvenating an older system – Power flushing an old dirty heating system will bring it back to life – I guarantee that all clients see an immediate improvement. It is a lot cheaper than having to replace your boiler and radiators, and in the long run can insure that your system is working more efficiently, reduce maintenance costs and increase the lifespan of your system. Power flushing is the best way to insure that the whole system is properly cleaned out and protected so that corrosion or scale in other sections of the system does not affect it at a later stage. A power flush can restore circulation, improve efficiency, reduce maintenance costs and increase the lifespan of your system
Why would I need PowerFlushing?
Why would I need power flushing.
• Does your heating system take a long time to heat up?
• Do some of your radiators have cold spots or not heat at all?
• Do you have to vent or bleed some radiators frequently?
• Is the water in the radiators dirty or discoloured?
• Have you had to replace radiators because of pinholes or leakage?
• Is you boiler noisy?
• Have you had regular pump problems?
If you have answered yes to any of above then this could indicate that your system has flow and circulation problems caused by internal corrosion which can cause rust, sludge, and scale deposits to build up.
PowerFlushing is new to the Irish market
Power flushing is relatively new to the Irish market. The majority of heating engineers just take the radiators of the wall and either flush them out with a hose or replace them. This is only a short term solution and does not solve the real problem which is corrosion or scale in the whole of the system. Corrosion and scale affect every part of the heating system. It builds on the inside of the pipes, valves, cylinder coil and boiler heat exchanger as well as the radiators. All boiler manufacturers insist that systems are chemically cleaned – without it they will not stand over the warranty. Call Kerry Plumbing for all your power flushing.

Winterize your home

Winterize your home and be prepared for the forthcoming winter. Here are a list of goods things to do to ensure that you keep
warm without having to pay substantial amounts of money:
Insulate – ensure that your home is adequately insulated. Grants are still available through
SEAI to assist you with loft insulation and dry lining. Call me should you require assistance in
making a grant application. Simply adding a jacket to a bare hot water cylinder will allow ou
to keep your hot water for longer and reducing costs
• Have your boiler serviced annually – the simple fact of having your boiler working at its
maximum efficiency will reduce your household fuel costs substantially. This also applies to
any Aga’s or back boiler stoves
If the heat output from your heating system is uneven a simple cleaning and power flush
will make a massive difference- I guarantee that you will see an immediate improvement .
• Turn your room thermostat down by 1 degree – the majority of houses have their room
thermostats set far too high. Simply turning it down a few degrees will mean that your
boiler does not have to work so hard and will cut down on your fuel consumption
• Consider having your heating system is zoned so that you have separate water and heating
controls A grant of €400 is available towards these costs under the SEAI Better Homes
scheme
• Ensure all pipe work within the house is lagged to reduce heat loss
• Have your chimneys cleaned – To most people this may seem an unnecessary expense
however cleaning that flue will mean that any stove or open fireplace will be more
productive and will provide a greater heat output
• If on the other hand the fire is not been used ensure that the flue is blocked up as heat will
escape this way
Ensure your guttering is cleaned – After the autumn season guttering often becomes
blocked from leaf fall this means that gutters do not work as they should. Dripping gutters
can severely damage the fabric of any building as damp will seep into the walls.

Thermostatic Radiator Valves
Thermostatic Radiator Valves are easily added to any heating system and help in the control and overall efficency of the heating system. It is a self regulating valve fitted to hot water heating system radiators. The Thermostatic Radiator Valves controls the temperature of a room by regulating the flow of hot water to the radiator.
Thermostatic Radiator Valves controls the temperature of a room
They consist of two parts, a valve that opens or closes to control the hot water flow, and an actuator that controls the opening of the valve. The actuator adjusts the valve opening based on the temperature in the room via a mechanical linkage or pin connected to the valve. The actuator is usually a plastic unit containing a wax plug, the wax plug expands or contracts as the temperature of the room rises or falls. The plastic unit is preset by a screw mechanism that positions the wax plug a set distance from the connecting pin. They are ideal for regulating the heat in rooms that are not used that often. At a lower setting you can still keep a small amount of heat running through the rad to keep the damp out while allowing you boiler to run for less time as a result.
