Disability Bathroom Installations
An existing bathroom can be converted to provide easy access for a person with a disability. I have carried out many grant assisted bathroom conversions. I work closely with clients and occupational therapists to ensure the bathroom is designed and installed to provide a long term solution. I have installed these both in individual homes and residential care Homes along with creation of wetrooms
Wetrooms
Wetrooms are the latest trend in bathroom design and are a welcome change to the usual small enclosed shower spaces that are typical to most Irish homes. The real beauty of them is that they can be adapted into most bathroom sizes as there is no restriction due to the need for a shower tray.A well designed wetroom is more spacious than the typical bathroom. Its shower area shares the floor space with the rest of the room, thus making them suitable for both small and large rooms, giving an sence of more space through their open plan nature.
In order to achieve the perfect wetroom good planning and proper installation processes need to be adhered to.
- The shower area of the room will need to be water tight, so a process known as 'tanking' is done. This involves applying 3/4 coats of a rubber membrane to the shower area or further if there is no glass divide between shower area and the rest of the room. By right all shower walls in any shower installation should be tanked but this unfortunately is not the case in most Irish homes
- The flooring of the wet area will need to prepared with a slope built in so as to direct the waste water towards the floor trap usually positioned in the centre of the wet area.
- Tanking is recommend to be run right down into the inner lip of the trap so as to fully insure a water tight seal on the floor area.
Tiling is done as normal on top of the tanked membrane. Larger tiles are recommend in smaller bathrooms as they give a bigger feelto the final product. The floor tiles will run flush with the chrome floor gully giving a professional finish to the room and allowing the sense of a larger bathroom floor space
